Death, the silent response to the caring from parents
Last September (2010), there was a case that an engineer from Nanya Technology Corporation seemed to be work-to-death. This year (2011), another engineer from HTC was dead because of overtime. These workers sacrifice their time, effort and health to support the need of international brand. However, the only worry from their family is whether their loved ones would become the next dead from working overtime.
“Your son dies because he volunteers to work overtime.”
When facing these victims’ family, Young Fast Optoelectronics and Wintek Corporation (the suppliers of Apple and HTC) deny that they are illegally exploiting workers. Apple and HTC continuously claim that the deaths in Young Fast and Wintek have nothing to do with them. But it is true that these production lines of high-tech products are killing workers. However, government in Taiwan does not face the reality and only fine companies when there are casualties. It seems that with this kind of government letting companies manipulating workers, victim families are helpless and desperate.
The Bloody Killer at the end of Production Chain: Apple
Last year numerous of Foxconn workers committed suicide because they couldn't bear the exploitation from the factory. There are also engineers and workers from Apple's supply companies work to death in Taiwan. With the accusation and condemn from all over the world, Apple shift from the initial deny to compromise and only monitor a tiny part of the production line. All the helpless workers are being exploited, forced to work to death and Apple is turning deaf ears toward them! The inhumane working condition becomes a strap on workers neck. Not until they are strangled to death can they relief from the toil. Even workers sacrifice their lives to Apple, Apple claims to have no responsibility to these workers' health and lives.
Pray for the living ones, sooth the indignation of the soul
While Mother’s Day is just right around the corner, in Taiwan, there are still a lot of overtime workers who cannot join the reunion party. We hope that we can have a gathering and tell our useless government and evil brand corporations, we do care about these overtime workers. In coherence to the international “Time to bite into a fair Apple” event on May 7, we invite you spare some time, come and join us to show our love, care and concern on overtime workers. Let the high-tech victims’ families know that they are not alone.
